EMPOWERING FARMER COMMUNITIES THROUGH CORN COB WASTE-BASED BIONEST FIBER INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE CHILI CULTIVATION AND RURAL ECONOMIC GROWTH

Abstract- Corn cob waste is an abundant agricultural byproduct that has not been optimally utilized by the community. This situation also occurs in the Lilo Rukun Minulyo Farmers Group in Sukolilo Village, Pati Regency, which still faces challenges in managing corn cob waste and a low germination rate for chili seeds, reaching only around 50–60%. This Community Service Program aims to develop and implement BioNest Fiber, an environmentally friendly growing medium based on corn cob waste, to increase the germination rate of chili seeds while supporting sustainable agricultural waste management. The implementation method includes preparation, outreach, training, practical training on making BioNest Fiber, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The program is implemented in a participatory manner, actively involving farmer group members in all stages of the activity. The expected results are an increase in the utilization of corn cob waste to at least 80%, an increase in the germination rate of chili seeds to over 75%, and an increase in the knowledge and skills of farmer group members in processing agricultural waste. The BioNest Fiber innovation is expected to provide environmental benefits, increase agricultural productivity, and create sustainable economic opportunities based on local resources.
