TECH-ENABLED INTERACTIVE HEALTH COACHING ON SELF-MANAGEMENT MOTIVATION IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS: A QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a growing global health burden, including Indonesia, with significant impacts on morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. Effective self-management is essential but often hindered by low motivation and self-efficacy. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of tech-enabled interactive health coaching (TIHC) delivered via the Sweetech-DM application in improving self-management motivation, self-efficacy, and quality of life among patients with T2DM. This quasi-experimental study involved 80 patients with T2DM (40 in the intervention group and 40 in the control group). The intervention consisted of a TIHC program delivered through the Sweetech-DM application. The control group received standard education provided by community health facilities. Data were collected using the treatment self-regulation questionnaire (TSRQ), diabetes management self-efficacy scale (DMSES), and world health organization quality of life scale (WHOQOL-BREF). Data were analyzed using chi-square tests, paired-sample t-tests, independent-sample t-tests, and ANCOVA. The findings revealed significantly greater improvements in self-management motivation, quality of life, and self-efficacy in the intervention group compared to the control group (p value <.0001). There were significant post-intervention differences between the intervention and control groups across all measured variables (p value <.0001). The results indicate that application-based TIHC is effective in enhancing self-management motivation, self-efficacy, and quality of life among patients with T2DM. These findings highlight the potential of TIHC as an innovative educational strategy for primary healthcare settings.
